Let’s get Juicy with it…

I have been trying to learn as much about the fashion industry as humanly possible. I have been listening to podcasts, reading magazines, looking at runway shows, watching documentaries, and just observing fashion influencers trying to learn through them. I was driving back to college a few weeks ago and listened to a podcast about Juicy Couture and cried. CRIED! I think that means I’m on the right path in life, right!? I hope so.

The founders (Pam and Gela) call themselves the “Juicys” and created the revolution of influencer marketing. They had a suite for celebrities to get pampered in to promote their brand; imagine your dream 2000’s sleepover… that’s what it was. They would also send what we now know as “PR packages” to celebrities in hopes they would love and wear the famous Juicy tracksuits. We all know Paris Hilton was a Juicy girl, but she was not paid to promote the brand. She became the face of the brand because she wore it in an authentic way and genuinely loved the Juicy Couture tracksuits. Personally, I wish this was how things still were. I don’t believe 99% of influencers promoting a brand/product because everything seems to be an advertisement nowadays.

Their name is also a play on words. Couture means to fit someone exactly, being perfectly tailored and likely few of a kind. These pieces (T-shirts, tracksuits, etc.) were mass produced pieces. Yet, they called them couture because the pieces fit everyone perfectly. The tracksuits were made extremely low-waisted so they would be flattering to every body type. The suits made everyone look thin and accentuated all the right curves. I absolutely love this because they made themselves the IT girls, and partly because their name made the brand sound outrageously fabulous. So fabulous that almost anyone could own their own couture item; Juicy Couture that is.

Because of their authenticity and love for the classic beachy, LA girl style, they were hugely successful and continue to be a household name. I am a huge Juicy Couture fan now because wow… how could you not be.

NEXT TOPIC (very short don’t worry, I just have to show off for a second):

I thrifted a skirt a while back and never really wore it. So, I decided it was time to flip it. I went outside of my comfort zone and tried my best to make the skirt into something I’d wear. IT IS NOW A TOP AND A SKIRT! I added a lace trim to the bottom after shortening it and I think it’s cute, if I do say so myself. I have a few more pieces that I want to attempt to fix up, so stay tuned…

That is all, I hope you enjoyed because I loved writing this blog.

XOXO, Jaden
